A Better Environment - HOME

We are an Environmental Testing & Consulting Company Covering the entire United States

A Better Environment is staffed with highly trained and dedicated professionals. We are equipped with ample modern, state-of-the-art analytical equipment and computer systems to support the continued pursuit of excellence within our analytical system.

New regulations regarding Lead and Phthalate content and Third Party testing requirements are being implemented by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

We train and perform lead-based paint activities. This includes the EPA RRP and Dust Sampling Technician classes.

The new EPA requirements carry a fine for non-compliance of $37,500 PER DAY! As of April 22, 2010, the EPA has ruled that contractors who perform renovations, repairs and painting must train and recertify in lead-safe work practices before renovating. This is required for any and all renovation activities that disturb more than 6 square feet of interior or 20 square feet of exterior lead paint in residential or child-occupied facilities built before 1978.

Lead Issues:

Lead exposure has been deemed to be a suspected carcinogen, causing damage to the brain, liver, kidneys, reproductive and nervous systems, premature birth as well as low birth weight. It is true that high-risk employees are of concern, however, according to the EPA, children under age six are the highest risk group due to their size; suffering symptoms such as learning disabilities, impaired motor skills, hyperactivity and slowed growth. Lead in homes, schools or workplace environments can cause fatal consequences. Lead-based paint was for the most part banned in 1978. There are a significant number of old buildings and surroundings that have lead based paint that need to be managed by building authorities and property owners.

Lead found in soil is due to contamination from lead-based paint, leaded gasoline and from the manufacture of lead containing products that potentially contaminate the air, water and food. Children can ingest lead-based paint from deteriorating building materials. Adults can be exposed to lead by inhalation of lead dust during workplace or home renovations. Lead does not biodegrade or decay so it accumulates in the body over time and becomes toxic.

Our Solutions:

  1. We are an EPA accredited lead certified professionals. Our staff works as a team in conducting a lead-based paint survey and provides comprehensive abatement project design & specifications needed to address the problem. Whether the recommended solution is abatement or encapsulation, our staff will monitor work performed by the contractor in compliance with OSHA worker protection guidelines.
  2. We are US/EPA HUD Clearance Technicians. We conduct abatement management and monitoring followed by a thorough post abatement inspection and clearance sampling using dust wipes which determines when the abatement scope of work is successfully accomplished.

We were originally formed to provide accurate and efficient lead testing. Very quickly it became clear to us that we needed to do more to service our clientele. We are in the process of expanded testing, monitoring, project design and specifications as well as project management services to include asbestos, indoor air quality and hazardous materials management.
